My research

Research interests

I investigate how child and adult second-language (L2) learners process and learn L2 speech and what experiential, psychological, and sociolinguistic factors influence their ability to do so. More specifically, I have examined how the amount of L2 experience influences adult learners’ acquisition of vowels, how learners' perception and production skills interact in L2 learning, how perceived cross-language similarity influences child and adult learners’ acquisition of vowels, and how learners' ethnic group affiliation is related to their ability to learn L2 pronunciation.

I also investigate whether implicit memory (which manifests itself as unconscious and unintentional facilitation in language processing) supports L2 phonological learning and, if so, how it interacts with learners’ attention to input.
